3 Fantastic Finds to Deal with Common Hair, Skin or Lip Issues, Vol. 1

Let’s face it, we all have those days when we wake up with lips so dry they could literally crumble off our face, greasy hair but no time to wash it or a zit on the chin the size of a walnut. The chances of waking up in such a nice state are usually directly proportional to the importance of what we have planned for the day.

It’s an unwritten cosmic law.

But recently, I’ve found three products so effective they defy the cosmic laws and universal order of things and today I’m here to share them with you. Happy? 😉

Greasy Hair: Klorane Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk

Having dark hair, I was wary of using dry shampoo for the longest time. I heard enough horror stories about it looking like dandruff on brunette beauties for me to just want to pass on the whole product category. Then Ruth Crilly launched her Colab Sheer Invisible Dry Shampoo, which sounded exactly like what I needed because it was supposed to leave no residue in the hair at all. So I tried it… Well, I can confirm that it really was sheer invisible, but frankly it could’ve done a better job at absorbing excess oil. It worked best as a styling spray, methinks, but what I actually wanted was something that would make my third-day hair look fresher and cleaner.

Now I’ve finally found that something in the form of Klorane Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk (WOO-HOO!). It is specifically formulated for darker shades of hair, so that I can use it without turning myself into Cruella De Vil (no grey cast whatsoever!) AND it’s amazing at soaking up the oil and making my hair look voluminous and fresh. SCORE!

Dry Lips: NUXE Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm

I’ve only recently acquired this well-raved lip balm from NUXE and oh my word, I love everything about it! I love its frosted glass jar, I love its citrusy scent and, above all, I love that it really is ultra-nourishing. I hate those balms you need to constantly reapply because they just create a film on top of your lips but don’t actually moisturize them. If I apply NUXE’s Rêve de Miel every morning (after exfoliating the lips with my toothbrush) and every night before bed, I can get away with using my beloved matte lipsticks on a daily basis.

Cystic Breakouts: Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion

The first impression I had of this targeted blemish treatment wasn’t exactly a positive one: it smells awful and is so runny it took me a few days to get the hang of application. I realized that the best way to apply this liquid lotion is to squeeze the tiniest amount directly on the zit and then immediately rub it in with a finger. And I also realized that since you only use the tiniest amount in very small areas, you can’t really smell it after you’ve put it on. BUT the actual reason why the Buffering Lotion made it on this little list is that on me it really seems to be working: if I put it on a bump as soon as it starts raising, it usually makes it disappear overnight! On zits in full bloom, the effect is not so quick and noticeable, but it surely does help speed up the healing process. Based on my experience, I can highly recommend this product; despite it’s not miraculous, it is definitely the best blemish treatment I’ve tried so far.

Have you ever used any of these products? Did you like them as much as I do? And do you know of any miraculous concoctions everyone should hear about?

Two out of three are firm favorites here: The Nuxe Rêve de Miel and the Klorane Dry shampoo, albeit in the version for lighter hair.
The Mario Badescu one has been sitting on my wish list for quite some time now, so I might give it a go soon after reading this rave here. Cystic spots are my main issue, and even though I don’t have many important dates to keep at the moment, I do wake up with a few of them whenever I plan to film…

So I’m not the only one who has the worst face on days when I have the most exciting plans! I’ve bought the Klorane Oat milk dry shampoo ( the normal hair version) for the first time two weeks ago and I used it to give back some volume to my hair after spending an entire day wearing a beanie ( mountains’ problems)! It is so good and I absolutely love its scent as well!

I’m eyeing Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. The effect seems to be a lot similar to Tea tree oil.

Yes to all these things you said… All of these things tend to happen at the same time so it is impossible to deal with them all. I had a bad experience with dry shampoo a few years ago and since then I haven’t used it once. I haven’t heard this dry shampoo before, now added it to my wishlist. I will make sure to check it out when I’m at Sephora, I hope they sell it.

I haven’t tried the Mario Badescu lotion but it was on my wish list. I’ve heard so many good things about it! I found the cause of my recent acne breakouts though, so HOPEFULLY I won’t have to use it…

I’m the odd one here because I hate dry shampoo, just can’t get used to the feel of it on my hair. I wash my hair every night after cooking because I can’t stand the smell of food in my hair so I think it’s became a part of life that I don’t see the need of dry shampoo.

Good insight into the dry shampoo! I have never used Klorane but I use Batiste (which was recommended to me by my sister) and it has been a life saviour on many early mornings. It is quite light in texture and the smell is rather pleasant! I guess their quality as evolved quite a lot since the first ones were invented.

That lotion for blemishes sounds really good, I never heard of it. For dry shampoo I use the Batiste one for dark hair, it’s quite good, just need to be careful with the fallout. 🙂

Mario Badescu is such a great brand & I am so excited you included this lotion to this list, girlie. Even though the scent could be not the most pleasant one, I am glad to read it does work! I am taking note of it – my skin has been breaking out quite a bit lately for no particular reason.
    Thanks for this post, hon!

Hi! I found you through Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog, and I’m so glad! Love the clean look and simple, informative feel of your posts.
The buffering lotion is super effective – I have found, though, that it can really dry out the skin and cause flaking or even scabbing.. I have found that if I cover the buffering lotion with Neosporin ointment or even just Aquaphor, it helps prevent the redness and flaking and seems to make the zit-fighting even better,
I can also recommend the Living Proof dry shampoo. I don’t like the smell at all – it smells like all the other Living Proof products, a kind of sharp medicinal lemony scent, but it’s great for soaking up grease and making hair look and feel cleaner.

Welcome, Rebecca! It’s great to hear you like my blog 🙂
Luckily, I haven’t experienced any flaking, but if that happens, I know what to do now, thank you!
I’ve heard great things about Living Proof (didn’t know about the scent, though), but unfortunately we don’t get it here in Italy.

I want to the the Nexe-Reve de Miel lip balm. I’ve been having horrible dry cracked lips for the past few weeks. It’s so bad that when I wear liquid lipstick the inner part of my bottom lip fades, as if I’m sporting the ombre look. Vaseline and the FRESH lip balm isn’t working for me. I wake up every morning with cracked, peeling lips that red specks (blood). I am trying Carmex though to see if that will work. But I will keep Nexe-Reve in mind. Thank you so much for this post Carol!

I have been suffering from dry lips all this Winter and it’s something that I haven’t had before. So this year I’m a bit like a deer in headlights with it all. Then to top it all off I have gained a love for matte lipsticks lol. So I am 100% gain to try the NUXE Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm. Thank you so much for recommending this Carol, it sounds like just what I need. I have a few things that are working, like my Clarins Lip Comfort Oil. But I just want something that little bit more intensive, to repair them for good. – Valentine’s Day Make-up Look

Ooh, definitely need that NUXE lip balm – dry lips are the story of my life and it’s terrible, haha. Even putting on chapstick throughout the day doesn’t help sometimes. And I do like the sound of that dry shampoo – I have dark roots and I feel like my Tresemme one (although it doesn’t leave the white residue) doesn’t really help THAT much when it comes to greasiness. Thanks for the suggestions 🙂

I’m definitely a Nuxe lip balm addict. I think I’ll always have one. Dry Shampoo is a must for me, mainly because I have very fine hair that can get clumpy. I like using Oribe or Batiste but I do have a travel size version of the Klorane Dry Shampoo and I really like it! I keep it for when I travel but I do like it a lot.
