My current favorite nude lipsticks. Clockwise from top left corner: Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in 404 Julia, NYX Chunky Dunk Hydrating Lippie in Hibiscus Tea Punch, KIKO Glossy Dream Sheer Lipstick in 201 Rosy Beige, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 001 Honey
When you’re a huge lipstick fan and have countless options of red, orange, pink, and plum, what do you do?
A. You stop buying lipsticks.
Wrong.
Oh, so wrong.
B. You buy another red/orange/pink/plum, because if you look at it in the moonlight, when there’s a full moon and the earth is closest to the sun and the Halley’s Comet is visible in the sky, you can totally see that it’s completely different from the other 20 lip products you already have in the same color family.
Hm. Maybe.
C. You direct your attention to nude lipsticks.
Right!
And that’s exactly what I’m doing.
Whether it’s because I’m currently enjoying experimenting with eyeshadows other than my usual all-over washes of color, or because I just needed an excuse to acquire even more lipsticks, it’s undeniable that lately I’ve opted for nude lipsticks more often than ever before.
In particular, there are four products that have become my go-tos whenever I need something more low-maintenance than my beloved brights and bolds, and today I thought I’d share them with you.
The Luxury Option: Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in 404 Julia ($37)
You know I love me some Chanel! Their products have an instant mood-boosting effect on me, and the Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in 404 Julia is no different.
It’s a browny nude with an impeccable formula that is both intensely moisturizing and completely weightless on the lips. No matter if I pair it with a thin black liquid line for a polished look, or with a dark smoky eye for a sultrier look, it always looks appropriate.
That’s Chanel’s magic for you! 😉
The Most-Wearable Option: NYX Chunky Dunk Hydrating Lippie in Hibiscus Tea Punch ($6)
The NYX Chunky Dunk Hydrating Lippie in Hibiscus Tea Punch is a browny nude with a hint of coral that makes it wearable across a wide range of skin tones and easy to pair with many different looks (here I’ve used it to complement the silvers and blues from the Chanel Architectonic Eyeshadow Palette).
Unfortunately, it has a pretty unpleasant chemical smell, but all in all it’s a good budget-friendly option.
The Retro Option: KIKO Glossy Dream Sheer Lipstick in 201 Rosy Beige
This KIKO Glossy Dream Sheer Lipstick in 201 Rosy Beige screams 60’s to me, and whenever I want to channel my inner Brigitte Bardot, this is the lipstick I put on. Its peachy undertone pairs really nicely with the warmth of Charlotte Tilbury’s The Dolce Vita Luxury Palette – so nicely that it’s basically the only lipstick I use in combination with that gorgeous quad.
Sadly, it looks like the Glossy Dream Sheer Lipsticks have been discontinued, but if you’re looking for a similar pale peachy nude, you may want to check out the NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Pure Nude.
The Cool-Toned Option: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 001 Honey ($9.49)
Whenever I want a more cool-toned lip, I reach for the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 001 Honey, so if you’re cool-toned this is definitely your safest bet.
Just a word of caution about the scent: it smells very minty, so if you don’t like mint, it’s probably not for you. Other than that, with its mauvy pink hue and hydrating formula, I think Honey is a universal crowd-pleaser.
So, now that I have a nude lipstick for every occasion, what should I direct my attention to, next?
Metallics?
Hmmmm, it’s honestly much more likely that you’ll see me looking at my red lipstick in the mirror on a full moon night…

December 13, 2016 at 9:22 pmHahahahha, that first question got me laughing out loud. These are lovely, I’d add them to my arsenal too if I were as much a lipstick lover as you.

December 13, 2016 at 10:35 pmI have not tried Revlon Just Bitten Kissable lip balm but I am a huge fan of the Matte Balm range! Have you tried that? I don’t think I’ve seen NYX Chunky Dunk range either, will need to check the next time I’m at work.

December 13, 2016 at 10:50 pmI’m just the same when it comes to Chanel, there is something about it which makes the lipstick a little bit more special, and you perfectly well describe the Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Color formula which is one of my favourite ones, when it comes to nudes, I personally love the shades Mademoiselle and Suzanne from the range but I will definitely check out Julia!

December 14, 2016 at 7:30 amI recently purchased three nude lipsticks from W7, I saw them in a store and thought ‘hey, I might need these to wear soon, when I get bored of the dark red shades I am current;y wearing’! You look awesome with all these shades, my favourite is the Revlon Balm Stain, so pretty! x

December 14, 2016 at 8:29 amThe NYX and Chanel looks really similar, but I do think I’ll vote for the chanel cause it’s so dang pretty! I haven’t used Revlon for a while but I recall looking at a lot of reviews for Honey (especially since I think there were pictures of Emma Stone wearing it) and it’s such a pretty shade!!

December 14, 2016 at 11:02 amI’ve always overlooked NYX Chunky Dunk lipsticks but Hibiscus Tea Punch looks gorge! So does Revlon Honey. I tend to steer clear of nudes since some of them don’t go well with my skin tone.

December 14, 2016 at 1:38 pmI’d totally go with option B! You have to be prepared fo all these eventualities.
But switching the focus is a legitimate strategy as well. I own a few nudes, but nothing that really excites me, even though I do wear them quite a lot. The easy option for these way too early mornings.
And why not metallics? I have recently added one (or two) in my collection and I do enjoy them more than I thought.
