Colored Pencil Liners: Lazy Makeup with a Twist

You know how it is, sometimes I feel like doing my makeup as if I were going to walk the red carpet at the Oscars, but other times (most times, to be honest) I don’t really want to do the whole shebang and blend like five different shadows on my lids. These are the times I’ll usually pull out my trusted pencil liners (and/or cream eyeshadows – but you can read about these here). Let’s have a look at what my favorites are and how I like to use them, shall we?

My Favorite Colored Pencil LinersThe first four I like to use both to line my eyes along the upper lashline and on the waterline (but I usually do either one or the other).

(1) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Deep End – A turquoise/teal with a pearly sheen. These Urban Decay liners are truly amazing, very creamy, pigmented and long-lasting! (See Deep End in action here)

(2) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Mainline – A deep teal blue with a matte finish.

(3) Deborah Milano 2 in 1 Waterproof Gel Kajal & Eyeliner in 04 – A dark forest green with a matte finish. Not the most long-lasting one when used on the waterline…

(4) KIKO Rebel Romantic Color Definition Eyeliner and Kajal in 04 Amazon Blue (Limited Edition) – A deep cobalt blue with a matte finish. (See it in action here)

The next three I like to smudge on the lashline for a subtle smoky effect. Sometimes I apply them both on the upper and lower lashlines, while other times only either on the top or on the bottom.

(5) Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in 19 Hot Scorch – A coppery bronze with a shimmery finish. I use this one a lot on my lower lashline as it looks very natural, but still adds a nice touch of definition. (See it in action here)

(6) SEPHORA Colorful Shadow & Liner in 15 Purple – A plummy purple with a pearly sheen.

(7) KIKO Smokey Eye Pencil in 05 Graphite (Limited Edition) – A bluish grey with a pearly sheen. (See it in action here)

The last two I only use on my upper lashline to create a little wing. Sometimes doing the flick with a pencil can be quite challenging, so my suggestion is to grab an angled liner brush, get a little product from the tip and use it like a gel liner.

(8) Maybelline Master Drama Chromatics Kohl Liner in Magic Magenta – A bright magenta with a slight pearly sheen. It might seem like an odd color to wear on the eyes, but a little wing with this and lots of mascara make a great summer look. It makes my light brown eyes really pop and I can’t even imagine how good it would look on blue or green eyes!

(9) KIKO Glamorous Eye Pencil in shade 403 (I think it’s discontinued!) – A deep copper with a pearly sheen. (See it in action here)

I thought that swatching the pencils on a piece of paper would be kinda cool, but it definitely wasn’t my best idea as the shimmer got lost and they all look matte… Oh well, bear with me, please! 🙂

Do you like colored pencil liners? How do you like to use them? I’m looking for a good matte violet pencil (kinda like the KIKO Amazon Blue one but in violet, can you picture it?), do you have any recommendations?

I have to say I’m not the biggest fan of khols and pencil liners on me, yet, your idea of using some colourful ones on top of a lazy makeup is so great it kind of convince me to try to wear some again!

Great post as always, lovely! I tend to stick to liquid liners myself, as I find them much easier to apply. These look super gorgeous and you are right, they are a fab and easy way to give your makeup a little more colour without too much effort. On my lazy days, I tend to stick to a black eyeliner. 🙂 I love eyeshadows, but I’m just too lazy to use them on a daily basis! x

I wear colorful liners along my bottom line, if ever. On top of my lids I stick to black, mostly because my eyes are too light without that and blur into my face when looking at it (Am I making sense here?).
The only purple pencil liner I owned was a MAC one, I cant remember if it was matte and I didn’t like it too much, so no recommendations from me.

I have a few colour eye pencils and I occasionally use them on my lids however, they are the same boring shade of purple, dark blue and turquoise. I never even considered purchasing a magenta shade but I might give it a try and see how I like it, how bad can it be right? LOL!

These look so colourful! To be honest, I never used any eyeliner other than black or dark brown, because I am kind of a newbie in makeup and never got a chance to improve my skills. I hope I will do so this year:)
I really liked the first two liners from Urban Decay, so I will check them out at Sephora:) Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!

I love colored eye pencils. I remember back in 2009-2010 when wearing two different eye colored pencils (like green on the upper lash line then violet on the lower lash line) were a trend because of DKNY and other runway shows. I used to do it back in my freshman year in college. And I think I also need to thank Lady Gaga for that trend 😀 Anyway, great review. I love some of these products.

    Happy New Year!

I think this is such a great idea on those days when you don’t want to put too much effort into your makeup, but at least look like you did! It’s amazing how much of an impact a touch of color can have on both our makeup or outfit looks! Thanks so much for sharing and providing such wonderful inspiration; I hope you’re having a wonderful day so far!

I hardly wear coloured liners but stick to black most of the time. Am I boring? 🙂 when I want to wear colourful liners, I prefer to wear them on bottom lash line. I really like the look of 2, 3 and 6.

I thing that Urban Decay has a beautiful violet liner on their range, and I know another brand that has launched pretty recently in Spain does an amazing purple as well, but I can’t remember the name! I will tell you if I remember.
