I am a huuuge fan of dark lips, I find them chic and edgy at the same time. Until recently though, it never even crossed my mind to wear a burgundy or plummy color in the warmer half of the year.
But this summer, probably thanks to celebrities that have been rocking vampy shades on red carpets and to magazines that have featured dark lip looks more and more often, I’ve been thinking… WHY NOT?!
To me the key to sporting an eggplant lipstick when it’s 35° C outside is to choose a matte texture (preferably a pencil) and leave the rest of the face almost bare. In the picture above, I’m wearing mascara, bronzer and Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip, a waterproof lip liner, in shade 12C.
So what do you guys think? Is wearing dark lipstick in the summer a DO or a DON’T?

August 20, 2015 at 9:16 pmDefinitely don’t. I think summer should be all about bright shades and bold lips are best in a/w xx

August 21, 2015 at 9:21 amWell I think wearing a dark shade or a bright shade is all a personal choice.. But I like your idea of keeping the rest of the face matte when opting for dark colors in summer 😀 I see myself reaching out for peaches and corals more often in summer 🙂

August 21, 2015 at 8:55 pmI don’t believe in don´t when it comes to makeup, but I rarely wear dark colors as I am so pale even in summer.

August 22, 2015 at 11:11 amI actually like dark lipstick on paler complexions, too, but I understand it’s not for everyone. The liner I’m wearing in the picture is too dark even for me, though. I normally use it to line my lips, blend it towards the center and then go in with a (slightly) lighter lipstick.

August 21, 2015 at 9:00 pmI never wear such dark lipstick (doesn’t look good on me). I think it’s more a fall/winter thing, but anyways there is no don’t in makeup! This lipstick shade looks really really good on you!

February 1, 2016 at 10:49 amYes I think it’s perfectly acceptable to wear dark lips during Summer months! I think a beautiful rouge lip with a tan really can look quite stunning.
