REVIEW | KIKO x Lovegrove Wanderlust Collection: When Affordable Makeup Meets Design

Well, after meeting designer Ross Lovegrove KIKO’s makeup has become a little less affordable than usual. But that’s understandable…

KIKO Wanderlust In The Shade Eyeshadow Kajal 04 Baked Blush 01 DD Cream Very Light ReviewWearing KIKO Wanderlust In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green, Sunshine DD Cream in Very Light, and Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may have realized by now that I’m a real sucker for beautiful packaging. So hearing that KIKO was launching a new collection in collaboration with designer Ross Lovegrove really piqued my interest! Needless to say that I rushed to my local KIKO store to thoroughly check it out.

Here’s the selection I’ve been testing over the past week…

KIKO Wanderlust Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral

KIKO Wanderlust Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush 01 Lust Coral ReviewFor some reason, I steered clear of baked powders for years, and while a couple of months ago the Max Factor Crème Puff Blush in Nude Mauve made me realize I had totally been missing out, the KIKO Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral has now made me a complete convert. Extreeemely silky and smooth, it’s a real pleasure to apply and blend, and a great product to add the prettiest luminous warmth to the cheeks.

KIKO Wanderlust Sunshine DD Cream SPF 30 in Very Light

KIKO Wanderlust Sunshine DD Cream SPF 30 Very Light ReviewTo me the KIKO Sunshine DD Cream is the ideal summertime base. Lightweight and easy to apply, this tinted moisturizer evens out the complexion, while protecting it from UV rays. Even though it doesn’t have any oily-control (which I usually need), I reeeally like its very skin-like finish. I think it would suit a pretty wide range of skin types, from moderately dry to moderately oily, and I can see it becoming my go-to errand-running base for the next few months.

To the fairest beauties out there: Very Light, which is the lightest shade, it’s not that light. If you’re paler than me, I’m not sure it’ll be a good match. I mean, it might be, since it barely has any coverage, but I’d suggest you test it out in store.

KIKO Wanderlust Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo

KIKO Wanderlust Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks 103 Free Flamingo Review

KIKO Wanderlust Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks 03 Free Flamingo Swatch ReviewWearing KIKO Wanderlust Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo on my lips and cheeks

Looking for a lip & cheek product that actually works well on both? Rejoice, your quest is finally over! On the lips, the KIKO Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo goes on smoothly with no dragging whatsoever, and its semi-matte finish hangs around for pretty long, while remaining comfy and non-drying. On the cheeks, it’s very easy to blend and impressively long-lasting, even on my oily skin!

I think the Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks would be a great product to take on a summer vacation to quickly do your makeup after a long day at the beach.

Only drawback: it requires sharpening – which, due to the size of the crayon, can only be done with the included sharpener.

KIKO Wanderlust In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green

KIKO Wanderlust In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal 04 Emerald & Petrol Green ReviewThe KIKO Wanderlust In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green was the most surprising product of the bunch. I picked it up because I fell in love with the petrol blue kohl, but was pretty sure that the emerald eyeshadow would be practically impossible to blend out (as it’s often the case with eyeshadow pencils in deeper shades). Turns out I was wrong, as it’s actually not that hard to blend (my suggestion for easy blending is to apply it immediately after primer). And the kohl is out of this world! So pigmented and long-lasting on the waterline… I LOVE it!

Just as the Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks, the In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal would be perfect for your summer travel makeup bag. I bet it would look gorgeous on bronzed skin!

KIKO Wanderlust Mirage Lip Stylo in 08 Let’s Be Cherry

KIKO Wanderlust Mirage Lip Stylo 08 Let's Be Cherry

KIKO Wanderlust Mirage Lip Stylo 08 Let's Be Cherry Swatch ReviewLet’s move from the most surprising to the most disappointing product of the bunch… Yep, the KIKO Wanderlust Mirage Lip Stylo in 08 Let’s Be Cherry was a huuuge disappointment. It’s so creamy that it bleeds and gets on my teeth shortly after I’ve put it on. If I apply a matching lip pencil first and avoid the edge of my lips with the lipstick, it doesn’t bleed, but still gets on my teeth.

The magnetic closure packaging looks great, though, so if you still want to get one of these lip stylos, I’d suggest you opt for one of the lighter shades, as the smearing might be less noticeable.

KIKO Wanderlust Free Spirit 103 Mirage Lip Stylo 08 In The Shade Eyeshadow Kajal 04 Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush 01 DD cream Very Light SwatchesSwatches of all the KIKO Wanderlust products mentioned. L-R: Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo heavy and blended, Mirage Lip Stylo in 08 Let’s Be Cherry, In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green, Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral, and Sunshine DD Cream in Very Light

Anyways, apart from the lip stylo débâcle, I’m pretty impressed with KIKO x Lovegrove Wanderlust collection. Have you tried anything yet? Are you tempted to? And how important is makeup packaging to you?

I love KIKO, all the products are of great quality, I love the universal foundation they sell, it has to be one of my favourites! But the DD Cream looks insane, the finish it gives is so appealing to me, I think I’ll need to give it a little swatch, it seems perfect for the coming seasons. P.s your brows look so good!! Xx

I find that I am either completely enamored with a Kiko collection… or I can just pass one by (it’s very hot and cold, haha!) but this one has me so, so riveted! I love the colors and can’t wait to give them a swatch when they make it to the US. 😀

I noticed that, so far, the fall and winter collections are HEAVY winners with me but the spring collections so far… meh. I hated Campus Idol and The Best Friend Collection, but that’s just me. I do still get insanely excited whenever they launch a new collection. 😀

Haha, same here! I loved their Rebel Romantic Fall 2015 collection and even the Midnight Siren one (especially the liquid lipsticks), but then I didn’t like the two you mentioned AT ALL! I guess we have the same taste when it comes to packaging! 😉

Exactly! I think it also has a lot to do with what colors they put out at those times. The fall/winter collections are dark, sultry and suit our tones (you and I are both brunette, brown eyed, with warm undertones) so, we love those jewel tones (and they love us!)

I also love summer shades so this collection is definitely one I want to check out. 😀

Since an email popped up in my mailbox, I’ve been lusting over this shiny packaging! Most of the time, it is the packaging that takes my attention then the product itself. I was actually thinking about ordering the lipstick, now I’m not really sure. I don’t want to waste £14 on a product which might be disappointment. I also didn’t know that there’s a DD cream, soon they will run out of the letters!

I like the Lips & Cheeks Crayon; I’m always a little bit reluctant to try that kind of product as they usually don’t work for both the cheeks and lips, and I really like to tie the lips and cheeks together so I will definitely try this one! Kiko always includes their own sharpener, this is the kind of details that show how thoughtful the brand is, especially for the price!

The packaging is ace and I can see why you went gaga over this collection. Free Flamingo is such a stunning shade on you and again, I know I sound like a broken record, I really wish Kiko is available here in Canada.

Oh the packaging! Now they really uped their game there.
I haven tried anything (yet), but I really want to try one of the baked blushes, as I have been enjoying my MaxFactor one so much. Too bad the lip stylo didnt work that well, I would have been all over the color otherwise.

And yes, packaging is really important to me. It can get me o buy stuff I didn´t plan on getting int the first place.

All of the shades you chose are gorgeous and so Spring appropriate. They all look beautiful on you too, I think every shade of make-up must suit you! The Lust Coral blush has caught my eye especially, I really want to get into wearing those shades this Spring. Also I can’t believe how amazing the KIKO Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks looks. I love multi-purpose products, especially when when we get into the warmer months.

Wow it looks like a beautiful collection! The LE packaging is really stunning.
I agree with you on the DD cream, the Very Light shade doesn’t look that light! I’m tempted by the baked blush and the shadow duo crayon, I’ll have to check if Kiko has released them in the US.

Oh man all of this is making me want to get Kiko products. They are available in the US and they have Kiko stores, but nowhere near I live, lol. With its luxurious packaging, you would think it was on the level of YSL or Chanel, but anything but! I love the nude lipstick on you in the first picture!
