Well, after meeting designer Ross Lovegrove KIKO’s makeup has become a little less affordable than usual. But that’s understandable…
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you may have realized by now that I’m a real sucker for beautiful packaging. So hearing that KIKO was launching a new collection in collaboration with designer Ross Lovegrove really piqued my interest! Needless to say that I rushed to my local KIKO store to thoroughly check it out.
Here’s the selection I’ve been testing over the past week…
KIKO Wanderlust Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral
For some reason, I steered clear of baked powders for years, and while a couple of months ago the Max Factor Crème Puff Blush in Nude Mauve made me realize I had totally been missing out, the KIKO Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral has now made me a complete convert. Extreeemely silky and smooth, it’s a real pleasure to apply and blend, and a great product to add the prettiest luminous warmth to the cheeks.
KIKO Wanderlust Sunshine DD Cream SPF 30 in Very Light
To me the KIKO Sunshine DD Cream is the ideal summertime base. Lightweight and easy to apply, this tinted moisturizer evens out the complexion, while protecting it from UV rays. Even though it doesn’t have any oily-control (which I usually need), I reeeally like its very skin-like finish. I think it would suit a pretty wide range of skin types, from moderately dry to moderately oily, and I can see it becoming my go-to errand-running base for the next few months.
To the fairest beauties out there: Very Light, which is the lightest shade, it’s not that light. If you’re paler than me, I’m not sure it’ll be a good match. I mean, it might be, since it barely has any coverage, but I’d suggest you test it out in store.
KIKO Wanderlust Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo
Looking for a lip & cheek product that actually works well on both? Rejoice, your quest is finally over! On the lips, the KIKO Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo goes on smoothly with no dragging whatsoever, and its semi-matte finish hangs around for pretty long, while remaining comfy and non-drying. On the cheeks, it’s very easy to blend and impressively long-lasting, even on my oily skin!
I think the Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks would be a great product to take on a summer vacation to quickly do your makeup after a long day at the beach.
Only drawback: it requires sharpening – which, due to the size of the crayon, can only be done with the included sharpener.
KIKO Wanderlust In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green
The KIKO Wanderlust In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green was the most surprising product of the bunch. I picked it up because I fell in love with the petrol blue kohl, but was pretty sure that the emerald eyeshadow would be practically impossible to blend out (as it’s often the case with eyeshadow pencils in deeper shades). Turns out I was wrong, as it’s actually not that hard to blend (my suggestion for easy blending is to apply it immediately after primer). And the kohl is out of this world! So pigmented and long-lasting on the waterline… I LOVE it!
Just as the Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks, the In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal would be perfect for your summer travel makeup bag. I bet it would look gorgeous on bronzed skin!
KIKO Wanderlust Mirage Lip Stylo in 08 Let’s Be Cherry
Let’s move from the most surprising to the most disappointing product of the bunch… Yep, the KIKO Wanderlust Mirage Lip Stylo in 08 Let’s Be Cherry was a huuuge disappointment. It’s so creamy that it bleeds and gets on my teeth shortly after I’ve put it on. If I apply a matching lip pencil first and avoid the edge of my lips with the lipstick, it doesn’t bleed, but still gets on my teeth.
The magnetic closure packaging looks great, though, so if you still want to get one of these lip stylos, I’d suggest you opt for one of the lighter shades, as the smearing might be less noticeable.
Swatches of all the KIKO Wanderlust products mentioned. L-R: Free Spirit Lips & Cheeks in 103 Free Flamingo heavy and blended, Mirage Lip Stylo in 08 Let’s Be Cherry, In the Shade Eyeshadow and Kajal in 04 Emerald & Petrol Green, Desert Dunes Trio Baked Blush in 01 Lust Coral, and Sunshine DD Cream in Very Light
Anyways, apart from the lip stylo débâcle, I’m pretty impressed with KIKO x Lovegrove Wanderlust collection. Have you tried anything yet? Are you tempted to? And how important is makeup packaging to you?
