OK, let’s put it out straight and simple: I’m completely and utterly in love with La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur. It might very well be my all-time favorite base product…
YEP, it’s that good!
While I spread it on my face, it literally looks like I’m applying an Instagram filter to my complexion: pores are erased completely, fine lines are minimized, and skin tone is evened out. It’s incredible!
And what’s even more incredible is that it does so by blurring the look of imperfections rather than covering them, so that I get perfect-looking skin with no mask-like effect whatsoever.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur moussy texture spreads super easily and sets to a velvet, skin-like finish that doesn’t need powdering
At this point you might be wondering… How the heck does it do that?
Well, with the first ingredient being dimethicone, it is basically just tinted silicone. In my experience, nothing beats silicones at erasing pores and giving the skin a perfectly smooth appearance.
Tested on oily and acne-prone skin, the Effaclar BB Blur is getting along with my skin really well. I haven’t experienced any breakouts or clogged pores, even with daily use.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur in Fair/Light swatched heavily and blended. Unfortunately, there is only one other shade, which is just slightly darker than this one, so La Roche-Posay really needs to expand the shade range of this brilliant product
La Roche-Posay claims that the BB Blur ‘absorbs oil all day long’, but frankly, it doesn’t on me. I wasn’t expecting that, since I think no product can really make my skin stop being oily, but I thought it was worth mentioning. It doesn’t make my face oilier, though, which is what I usually look for in my base products.
As an added bonus, the Effaclar BB Blur has SPF 20 (titanium dioxide), which makes it ideal for the spring and summer months. It is currently on offer at £11 on Escentual, and you may also find it at Ulta and Target at $29.99.
Have you ever tried this product or anything quite like it?

April 5, 2016 at 9:01 pmIt has been on my to-buy list for a while now for the summer months, and seeing that you love it convinces me. I just hope the shade range will work for me, as I don’t plan on fake tanning just to wear it…

April 5, 2016 at 10:06 pmInstagram filter effect sounds tempting! I don’t think there’s a product that absorbs the oil whole day for oily skinned girls like us! If you find one, please let me know 😉

April 5, 2016 at 11:23 pmThat’s it Carol, I’m off to give this a Google, it genuinely seems right up my street. I love BB Creams and anything of the sort and LRP is one of my favourite brands, I don’t know where I would be without my serozinc. It’s just such ashame about the shade range!

April 6, 2016 at 3:19 amSounds like a great product! Does it have any anti-acne properties (considering it’s part of the Effaclar line)?

April 6, 2016 at 11:10 amNo, it doesn’t contain any anti-acne ingredients, only oil-absorbing ones (perlite and silica).

April 6, 2016 at 8:55 pmHaha I love the Instagram filter for your skin part, that definitely sounds amazing! I’d be curious to see how this would fare out on dry skin since that’s what I have, but it seems like a great product nonetheless!

April 6, 2016 at 11:40 pmJudging by the swatch it’s pretty thick in texture? How do you think this will perform on dry, dehydrated and mature skin? Will it settle into fine lines and accentuates dry skin?

April 7, 2016 at 8:52 amIt’s a mousse, but an extremely lightweight one, so it may look thick when unblended, but it feels weightless once you’ve blended it in. It’s mainly silicone, so it doesn’t settle into fine lines, but actually minimizes them. As for dry patches, I wouldn’t know… I mean, it doesn’t contain any moisturizing ingredients, so I don’t think I’d recommend it to someone with dry skin. It’s definitely better suited for normal to oily.

April 8, 2016 at 9:40 amIn general I find BB creams a bit oily, although it’s not always a bad thing.
Thank you for the honest and thorough review of this one.

April 8, 2016 at 3:14 pmThis really does sound amazing, and especially as you’ve mentioned how it blurs imperfections rather than removing them completely and giving a ‘stone cold’ appearance. I’m using a foundation by Clarins at the moment, though I may well give a BB one a go next – and perhaps this one! 🙂

April 9, 2016 at 9:18 amThis sounds sooo nice; especially since I have the effaclar mat daily moisturizer so I’m curious about this one. My skin is getting oilier easier than before and I really need to control them!!
