Makeup on the Run: My Favorite Cream/Stick Eyeshadows

Best Cream Stick Eyeshadow SwatchesL to R: Maybelline On an On Bronze, Benefit My Two Cents, Collistar Bronze, KIKO Golden Brown and Rosy Brown, MAC Perky, Maybelline Metallic Pomegranate and Creamy Beige, Chanel Epatant.

Cream or stick eyeshadows are my go-to products when I want to look polished without spending too much time on my makeup. While their ease of application makes them the perfect eyeshadows for newbies, if you’re a makeup expert you’ll surely appreciate how quick they are to use whenever you’re in a hurry.

The way I personally like to apply them is to pat them onto the mobile lid with my finger (or, in case of a stick, straight from the stick) and then blend the edges with a fluffy brush (if you don’t want to use a brush, you can easily get away with just using your fingers). I often complete the look by applying a pencil liner in the waterline and/or lower lash line.

In my opinion, for this one-shade-all-over-the-lid type of look, you’re better off choosing a neutral color. Bolder shades are often patchy and uneven and I find they work better as a base for powder eyeshadows or used as liners. My favorite neutrals include:

  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze: It’s one of those shades that look good on a wide range of skin tones, all year round.
  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in My Two Cents: A warm coppery bronze.
  • Collistar TWIST Ultra-Shiny Eyeshadow in Bronze: This is my favorite summer eyeshadow. EVER. The swatch doesn’t do it justice, click here to see its wet-looking finish in full glory!
  • KIKO Long-Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 06 Golden Brown: Another great year-round shade.
  • KIKO Long-Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 05 Rosy Brown: Its pink undertones make it a great option for cooler skin tones and pale eyes.
  • MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Perky: A pretty peach color that I like using in spring and summer.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate: The perfect plum eyeshadow for fall.
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige: This one is the most versatile of the bunch. I’ve already sung its praises in a previous post, which you can read here.
  • Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Epatant: A silver with a hint of khaki. I usually like to warm it up with a warm brown in the crease.

What is your go-to look when you’re in a hurry? Do you like using cream eyeshadows as much as I do?

I prefer powder to be honest but I definitely use cream eyeshadows when I have to hurry! Since I have the Kiko sticks I always pick them but I like the Color Tattoos too.

Cream shadows al the way, they are perfect for a quick look and usually are a dream to blend. Some of the ones I have used needed to be set with a power which somehow takes away from the time-saving aspect, but otherwise they would have creased like hell.

None of these crease on me (over primer), but I do tend to only apply a thin layer. They probably would if I really packed them on.

I love cream eyeshadow since I watched one of Lisa Eldrige’s tutorial about doing a smokey eye look. I bought the “Illusoire” colour which is absolutely beautiful. As you said, it is mixed with powder and not used on its own as it is a dark shade, but creates a really nice easy smokey eye!

Illusoire looks amazing, too! When I got Epatant, I was undecided between the two 😉

I love cream shadows! All of these shades are gorgeous, I think I may have to try the Kiko ones! I love to use cream shadows, they make lazy make-up easy and look like you’ve spent a lot more time.

I use cream and stick shadows a lot. At least 3 times per week I would say! I have a lot of Maybelline Color Tattoos but, after all, I’ve decided that they’re really not my favorite formula. I often go for a completely nude no-makeup look with a BB Cream Eyeshadow from bareMinerals. I love the ones you swatched here, they all look gorgeous – and now I want the 2 Kiko sticks!

The Kiko sticks are great. They’re quite shimmery but after you blend them in the crease the glitters are not really visible anymore, so it looks like you’ve used two different eyeshadows. Lazy makeup at its finest! 😉

I hated using cream eye shadows before, they just didn’t last for long. However now I use them when I am in hurry, they are easy to apply and at the end they look good 🙂 I only have three of these eye shadows and I absolutely love them. Metallic pomegranate is my favourite at the moment 🙂

I adore all these shades!! My go-to look when I’m in a hurry is to use a little MAC eye shadow. I love using creme colors on my eyes because they last for such a long time and don’t have as much fall out!
