Ever since Kathleen Lights launched Miami Fever, her liquid lipstick in collaboration with OFRA Cosmetics, I’ve been obsessed with finding a lipstick in a similar shade, which is a burnt orange that reminds me of pumpkin spice. In summer, I love wearing bright orange on the lips and Kathleen’s color looks like the perfect fall equivalent.
After deciding I didn’t want to order Miami Fever all the way from the US, I started looking for an alternative that would be easier for me to source. Turns out it’s a pretty unique shade and the only product I could find that reminds me of it is a lipstick from Diego Dalla Palma’s Fall/Winter collection. So the other day I went to the store to make it mine, but when I got there I found out it was closed for renovation… %&$@£*#§!!!!! You know the feeling, right?!
But then I though: ‘What the hell! I just want an orange lipstick with brown undertones, all I need to do is mixing two I already have and make my own custom shade!’. Picking the brown shade was pretty easy, since I only have two. One is a dark chocolaty brown that I knew wasn’t going to work, so I had to choose my only other option, which was Maybelline SuperStay 14HR in Lasting Chestnut, a reddish brown (read full review).
I swatched it on the back of my hand and then layered a few different oranges on top of it. I obtained the perfect color by mixing Lasting Chestnut with MAC Mattene Lipstick in Fashion Nomad, a pure orange. I tried the combination on my lips and was very satisfied with the result. I applied one layer of Lasting Chestnut first, then one layer of Fashion Nomad and finally added a little more orange until I was happy with it.
Do you ever mix your lipsticks to get your own custom color? If so, what’s your favorite combo? Did you get your hands on Kathleen’s lipstick? And do you know of any dupes?

October 20, 2015 at 11:17 amI only ever mixed lipliner and lipstick to get another color, but never two lipsticks. I´d be afraid they´d slide around, but it seems like it worked perfectly well for you.

October 20, 2015 at 2:25 pmI do this a lot, it saves a lot of money, rather spend on eyeshadows than lippies to be honest. 🙂

October 20, 2015 at 8:47 pmI personally don’t mix very often at all (one reason might be the sheer number of lipsticks I own, it’s rare that I can’t find the right shade…), but my grandma loved to. She would always mix her lipstick to get her perfect shade 🙂

October 21, 2015 at 4:42 amMixing two shades sometimes really ends up in a beautiful color that one can never let go off. I really want to try the Ofra cosmetics liquid lipsticks and highlighter. Nice post:)
