The Secret to Perfectly Imperfect Beach Waves

Beach Waves Diva Professional Styling Beach Curls WandI don’t have too many complaints about my hair. Despite being very long, it’s pretty thick and healthy and I don’t have a single split end. There is one thing I’m not completely happy with, though: it is stick straight.

The only way for me to naturally have it at least slightly wavy is to not brush it at all and let it air dry when I wash it, but the next day it ends up looking a lot more bird’s nest than Victoria’s Secret Angel. LE SIGH. So, curling wands are actually my only real option to liven up the good ol’ mop.

Traditional curling irons don’t really do it for me, though, because the curls I get are often too artificial-looking for my taste. The wand I use these days (Diva Professional Styling Beach Curls Wand – find it similar here) was specifically designed to create messier and more natural-looking waves. Because of its peculiar shape, what I get are beautifully imperfect curls that are tighter in some places and looser in other places.

With Diva’s wand, those luscious beach waves you never see on the beach, but only on runways, are very easy to achieve, as you don’t have to be too precise. Actually, the messier it is the better it looks! You can curl bigger and smaller sections, change the direction you twist your hair around the wand, twist the sections more at the top and less at the bottom or viceversa, in order to achieve your desired level of messiness.

Do you ever curl your hair? What tools or no-heat methods do you use?

I have tried different curling methods, from curling wands to curling irons and of course everything non-heat related I could find, as my hair is fine, damaged and straight. To be honest, I haven’t found my holy grail yet, to achieve chic Victoria Secret waves. Most likely because my hair isn’t in the condition to look smooth and silky, no matter what I do, so i decided to focus on hair health first.

Hair health should always be a priority, as nothing will really make it look good if it’s not healthy to begin with. I only curl it maybe once every two months, because I really have no patience when it comes to hair (it takes me about half an hour after blow-drying!). But I guess it’s actually a good thing for their health!

Your hair looks fantastic!!! It’s so hard for me to get wavy hair, most of the time I let it air dry and then use a curling wand to touch up the pieces that didn’t get wavy!

Your hair looks absolutely stunning, wow! 🙂 It’s funny because I’m actually the opposite – my hair is naturally super curly, and I can’t stand that, so I straighten it almost every day! x

My hair is naturally wavy as you know, I’m so glad that messy beach waves are still trending because that’s exactly what grows on my head, lol!

No, I don’t curl my hair as I already have plenty of waves in my hair. However, your curls make me want to curl my hair. So pretty!

Your hair is gorgeous! I actually wouldn’t mind pin straight hair myself. I have to straighten mine to achieve that look. Otherwise it’s super frizzy and wavy (but not nice waves).

Do you do anything special to keep your hair so healthy?

I agree with you, Lisa. My hair is somewhat wavy but when I just blow dry it it’s really puffy and frizzy so I have to straighten it!

Thank you! I don’t really do anything special, but I never use straighteners and only curl it like once every two months. I guess the fact that I don’t use heated styling tools (except for a hairdrier) helps keep them healthy.

I don’t usually curl my hair unless I am feeling fancy. I had one horrid experience of perming my hair in my very early 20s and I ended up looking like an Asian version of Olivia Newton John in Grease and never again I looked at curly hair the same. I do like my KISS Instawave curler, it’s brilliant and pretty much fuss free to create curls, the best part is the curls will last long time too.

I wish my hair was as thick as yours and looked good like that! It looks so silky 🙂 I agree with the traditional curling wands, they don’t give that natural look beach waves look. I have my eye on something similar, after seeing how good your hair looks, I will actually consider buying one 🙂

I haven’t curled my hair in a while, I have a Conair iron that I used to use but it created those tight fake curls. I’ve always wanted a new curling iron though especially one that would make beach waves. These days I just shower and tie my hair in a bun to get that look. Great post!
