The New YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick is Good for Travelers, Babies, and Dolls…

The new YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick in shade 1 From Marrakesh to Paris. For now I’ve only seen it on Sephora Canada ($40), YSL UK (£26), and Douglas Italia (€41.95), but I expect it to be available everywhere else pretty soon

Dear YSL,

I want you to know that I really love your lip products. I mean, your Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in 208 Fuchsia Fetiche is my all-time favorite lipstick! And I was pretty impressed with your Rouge Volupté Shine, Gloss Volupté, Volupté Tint-in-Oil, and Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain formulas. Oh, not to mention your original Baby Doll Kiss & Blush! You managed to create a product that works equally well on the cheeks and on the lips – something many have tried, but very few have succeeded!

But I also want you to know that I’m a little disappointed with your brand new Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of a two-tone matte stick for lips and cheeks. I like that you can mix the two shades together,  use them separately, or even use them side by side for a fun color gradation (which seems to be one of the big trends of the year). The formula is really not bad, either – it’s easy to blend, natural-looking, and long-lasting on the cheeks, and pretty comfy on the lips.

What I don’t like is that the tube is so tiny and lightweight that it looks and feels like toy makeup! It completely lacks that luxury feel I expect from a brand of YSL’s caliber that charges €40 for 5 grams of product.

I still love you, YSL, but I thought you should know.

Sincerely yours,

-Carolina

Today I’m giving ombré lips a go with the YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick in the shade 1 From Marrakesh to Paris. On the cheeks I’m wearing the fuchsia shade on its own

Product-feel-rant aside, I’m pretty impressed with how well two shades that look so different actually work in an ombré look

Swatches of the YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick in shade 1 From Marrakesh to Paris: heavy (L), blended (R)

If you’re someone who travels a lot, you may find very convenient having two different lip and cheek colors in such a small, lightweight tube. Also, if you want to have fun with color gradation and ombré looks using just one product, you’ll probably enjoy the YSL Kiss & Blush Duo Sticks. Other than that, if you want to treat yourself to some luxurious YSL, I personally recommend going for one of their lipsticks (especially the Rouges Pur Couture The Mats), or even the Les Sahariennes Sun-Kissed Blur Perfector, which is another huge favorite of mine.

Funny, just this morning, I was thinking about YSL beauty, about the fact that I don’t really know the brand and should try more products from them, I went online and this was the first product I saw and it looked huge in the picture, now that I see it beside your hand, I understand your point! Even the Ombre effect seems a little bit too harsh for my liking, it works really well as a blush though! Great Review!

I smashed a bottle of original rouge libertine kiss and blush on my bathroom
Floor. At work. I appreciate more plastic packaging now

Noo that’s horrible! R.i.p. to it! I got some new makeup in the mail yesterday and I accidentally dropped the package and when I opened it, my brand new eyeshadow was smashed! Such a bad feeling! And I didn’t even get to use that baby! Life right!

Unghhhh the colour is so beautiful! But if I’m paying that much for a product I’d expect a bit more pizzazz in the packaging too 🙁 I looked on the Canadian sephora site and it’s $40 CAD over here, which is slightly less expensive compared to euroes, but nontheless, I’d get another luxury looking lipstick instead.

Both of those colours look so nice for Spring time. But, if i’m going to be spending that much on a product I would like it to be a little heftier. Maybe a little more product and a little bit of weight behind it. Great review!

Love the shades but not sure how I feel about the packaging. For the price that it comes with, I expected more from YSL.

It would be lovely for someone that travels a lot or like me who I always carry too maany lipsticks. But what is going on about the packaging? I would expect a luxurious packaging and indeed it looks like a toy but I really love the shades!

Oh wow, what a unique concept! This does seem great for travelers, *raises hand*! The swatches that you did are really pretty too. Definitely going to have to look in to picking this up!!

My lips are so thin I don’t think I will ever be alble to pull off the ombre lips trend. At least not if I want to avoid the dark liner bright lip situation that was part of my 80s childhood.

Hmm the packaging does look very cheap, and it seems tiny. I generally don’t like sticks with more than one shade, they look fun but I rarely find them very convenient to use!

Great concept but it totally does look like toy makeup. I like the ombre look and that’s probably how I’d use it.

I love YSL. I love it to the point where if I had to choose one makeup brand to use for the rest of my life, it would be it! But at their price point I do agree that this looks like toy makeup. The colours are lovely though 🙂
