YSL: New Volupté Tint-in-Balm & Instagram Makeup

You know tinted balms and I are having a moment, right? They really help brighten up my whole face on days when I don’t want to wear a real lipstick.

So obviously I couldn’t not try one of the new YSL Volupté Tint-in-Balms ($34), which are replacing the Sheer Candy formula in the YSL Volupté family.

I chose shade 12 Try Me Berry, which I’m showing you today.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid I don’t really like this.

I mean, I don’t dislike it, but it’s definitely not my favorite.

While it feels very hydrating and nourishing on the lips, which is obviously a good thing, it also feels extremely wet and slippy, which is something I personally don’t like.

The staying power is not the best either: it lasts 1-2 hours and doesn’t leave a stain behind.

If you don’t mind the slippy texture, you’ll probably get along better with the YSL Tint-in-Balms, but for me it doesn’t get more than a passing grade.

Speaking of YSL

Yesterday I saw they posted a picture of Manny MUA on their Instagram.

Did you see it? What did you think?

I read this comment below the photo that pretty much sums up my feelings: “Oh god no, stay classy, please”, LOL.

Apparently I was wrong and not all French brands are immune from the drag Instagram makeup.

So please, my dear ChanelNOT YOU TOO!

I know what you mean, a tint in balm has to be hydrating but not too slippy and that balance isn’t that easy to find. I also prefer when they leave a stain on the lips! I think I will pass on this one! It’s a shame, though, I really wanted to add that beautiful packaging to my makeup collection 🙂

I am not a follower of Manni MUA, simply because it is not my kind of makeup, but it seems to be taking over even the classic brands. It is too big a market to pass, I guess.
Oh, I directed someone your way via Twitter yesterday, she had a few questions regarding shopping for skincare and makeup in Italy, I hope you don’t mind I told her that you’d be the best source for any of that information.

Wet and slippy texture… definitely no! But it looks beautiful in the packaging!

Lately the brands seem to be doing the same thing! I’m not a fan of him and classy brands like that shouldn’t be getting involved with YT or blogs. They have a reputation which they built for years and they don’t need more fame of those people. Let’s hope Chanel stays classy 😉

okay, so i had to go on instagram to check out this manny guy so i would know what you were talking about. what i can say is that most of these brands are looking to reach the masses. So it’s all about how they can reach many people to enlarge their market.

I am not a fan of tinted lip products, they just never work right for me and I am so used to full pigment. On to YSL and Manny, I don’t follow Manny because his makeup is not my style but…sigh, I don’t think brands like YSL needs YouTuber collabs or spokesperson. I do like YSL is embracing diversity though.

It’s great they’re embracing diversity, but I don’t think Manny’s style really fits the brand’s image, or at least the image it used to have. I would’ve had the same exact reaction if someone like NikkieTutorials had been featured!

I’m so glad you’ve posted this-I was about to order two of them but I don’t like that kind of texture either! Thank you Carolina!

As for Instamakeup – aren’t we all a bit over it by now!?

Shame that this doesn’t last long nor leave a stain behind. 🙁 Thanks for saving me the money!

It’s great that it feels hydrating on the lips but wet and slippy? No! But I am loving the packaging. I am not a follower of Manny and I know what you mean and I agree with Shireen, I don’t think that brands like YSL need collabs with youtubers.

I do like the balm on you. Wet and slippery lips I don’t like though. I just looked up their IG and Manny is pretty. Like Shireen said it’s great that they’re embracing diversity.

I love how it looks on you. I don’t really do balms and especially dont like wet and slippy lips but I did check out their insta and Manny is pretty. Like Shireen said, it’s great that they’re embracing diversity. Great product! Happy Monday.

Hi Idu! Yes, I agree it’s great they’re embracing diversity, I just don’t think Manny’s style really fits YSL’s style.

I actually like a bit of slip in my lip balms so I might enjoy it! I’m planning on getting one next month.
And you know, I think YSL has always been into a tackier style than Chanel. They really push the sexy, wild, rebellious aspect of their brand, they’re definitely not trying to be as classy, and it’s true of their haute couture line as well IMO. So I’m not surprised they would associate with internet beauty gurus who wear the Instagram look daily.

You’re right, they’re definitely not as classy as Chanel, but I’ve always seen them as rock and roll and sexy rather than tacky.

Yes, I agree. I don’t like these balms by YSL either. My lips are dry and when I tried one at my local counter, it softened them but nothing spectacular and the colour didn’t last an hour on me. So, I passed this time. X

I like the idea of these – but they’re super pricey for a lip balm!
