What’s the weather like in your little corner of the planet?
Here in Bologna, Italy, winter seems to be finally willing to pack its bags for the year, but last week was the coldest of the season, with high temperatures remaining well below freezing.
As you probably know, extreme outside temperatures paired with central heating can wreak havoc on your skin and make it temporarily dehydrated (yes, it can even happen to an oily skin like mine). But extreme weather conditions are not the only cause of dehydrated skin, so if you want to know more about it, check out this highly informative video by my friend Anne. If, on the other hand, you just want some quick fixes for your parched skin, just stay where you are and read on!
Step 1 – The Hydrating Spray: Paula’s Choice Refreshing Moisture Mist ($25)
I think hydrating creams and serums work best when applied to wet skin and, while even a simple thermal water will serve the purpose, I prefer using something that also packs skin beneficial ingredients, like peptides and antioxidants.
Enter: the fabulous Paula’s Choice Refreshing Moisture Mist.
The mist is not exactly the finest I’ve ever encountered, but since I don’t use it on top of makeup, that doesn’t really bother me. Just follow directions and hold it at arm’s length.
Step 2 – The Hydrating Serum: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 ($6.80)
Hyaluronic acid can attract and retain up to 1000 times its weight in water (which is why you want to use it on wet skin) and this little number by The Ordinary contains three forms of it with different molecular weights, as well as an HA crosspolymer, to offer multi-depth hydration. The formula is enriched with vitamin B5 (panthenol) which also enhances surface hydration.

Step 3- The Hydrating Cream: Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream ($22 – $65)
Ahhh, this face cream…
This face cream is expensive. Yes.
But I LOVE it.
It’s so cooling and hydrating and refreshing that I just can’t stop using it. I love that it leaves my skin plump and glowy in a good way (having oily skin, being glowy in a bad way for me is totally a thing).
Besides hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, Sunday Riley Tidal also contains papaya enzymes to gently exfoliate and alpha-arbutin to brighten the skin. I personally rely on my serums and liquid exfoliants for these purposes, but if you’re someone who prefers some sort of one-stop-shop skin treatment Tidal is definitely one to consider.

March 11, 2018 at 9:50 pmIn my next video on this topic, I try to include some product recommendations and added exactly this product by The Ordinary without having tried it myself. Good to see it has your stamp of approval, I was a little nervous.
In Germany, spring is finally making an appearance too, but right now I am in Galtür, with snow everywhere…

March 12, 2018 at 3:09 amDo you think that cream is hydrating enough for dry-normal and mature skin? I had no idea that Paula’s Choice has a face mist, I adore her products in general so I’ll have to buy it soon.

March 13, 2018 at 10:47 amI find it VERY hydrating, but if you’re also dry (not just dehydrated), I would recommend you also use an oil on top. I’ve been trying quite a few Paula’s Choice products lately and I love them all!

March 21, 2018 at 9:27 pm“hydrating creams and serums work best when applied to wet skin” REALLY? I have never thought about that one and that’s the first thing I’ll be trying in my routine! I want to try that water cream, however, I’m not sure if I’m ready to make that big commitment without giving it a try!

March 27, 2018 at 7:14 pmHi Ela! Well, the smaller size is 20 pounds, which is still quite a lot for 15 ml, but at least is not as big a commitment. I personally always get the smaller size, because of the jar packaging. I don’t like to keep a jar open too long and I’m sure the 50 ml size would last me ages.
