So, there’s probably not much to be said about this makeup look, as I guess it’s what everyone else is going to do, BUT… I’ll tell you about it anyway!
As I’ve mentioned here and there lately, I knew I was going to do a gold eyes-black liner-red lips type of look. What I also knew was that I wanted to use MAC Ruby Woo as a lipstick, but wasn’t sure what I would do on the eyes. I couldn’t just use Isolde yet again and actually wanted something less warm-toned than that (NARS Isolde leans way more copper than gold). I was just in the middle of my makeup musings when I spotted Collistar’s Holiday collection and noticed that they’re repromoting a glittery gold liquid eyeshadow from a past limited edition that I happen to be in the possession of. Seeing that it had been lying untouched at the bottom of my makeup drawer for quite some time, I thought Christmas would be the perfect occasion to put it to good use.
ALSO, I put on false lashes, which I never ever do and the final effect wasn’t too horrendous! Here’s the full list of the products I used:
- Foundation: Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet in B20
- Under-eye concealer: Bobbi Brown Corrector in Peach and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind in Light
- Blemishes: Vichy Dermablend Ultra-Corrective Foundation Cream Stick in 12 Opal
- Setting powder: Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation in Golden Light (mini-review here)
- Under-eye setting powder: Marc Jacobs #InstaMarc – highlighting shade (review here)
- Bronzer: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder in shade 50 (mini-review here)
- Blush: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed (mini-review here)
- Highlighter: The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer (see it in action here)
- Eye primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- Crease: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige (review here)
- Lid: Collistar Rhinestone Effect Liquid Eyeshadow in Copper (which is more of a rose gold)
- Lower lash line: Nudie and Chocolate Cookie from Too Faced Natural Matte Eyeshadow Palette (review here)
- Brow bone: Heaven from Too Faced Natural Matte Eyeshadow Palette
- Falsies: Ardell Demi Wispies + DUO Eyelash Adhesive – Clear
- Gel eyeliner: Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama in 01 Black
- Mascara: Pupa Vamp in Black
- Lip liner: KIKO Rebel Romantic Intensely Lavish Lip Pencil in 03 Luscious Red (review here)
- Lipstick: MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo (mini-review here)
On a slightly different note… What do people do in your country for Christmas? Here in Italy, surprise surprise, we have a big food-coma-inducing meal. And when I say ‘big’, I really mean ‘HUGE’: think about what a big meal is for you and multiply by 3 – at least! The further to the south, the bigger it’ll usually be. I live in Bologna (watch this beautiful New York Times video if you have 5 minutes to spare), which is in the north, but we’re actually pretty famous for our food… Do you know lasagne, tortellini and Bolognese sauce (which we call ‘Ragù’ and don’t EVER eat with spaghetti, but with tagliatelle)? Well, they all come from here!
Oh, and when I said ‘meal’, I actually meant ‘mealS’: dinner on Christmas Eve (traditionally fish-based), lunch on Christmas Day and another lunch on Boxing Day (Santo Stefano here). We usually have each one with a different part of the family (like parents, in-laws, etc.), but obviously there are no rules.
So, what are you going to do for Christmas – as your makeup and to celebrate? I’d love to know! 🙂

December 15, 2015 at 11:02 amNow you have already seen my look, so I´ll share with you our traditions, which, not surprisingly, contain lots of food:
In Germany, we do unpack our presents on Christmas Eve, usually around 6 pm, and then sit dow to eat with the family. We will be at my parents, like almost every year, and eat a variety of premade salads (like potato salad, not the green and health ones) as well as lots of cheese, cookies and lychees. On Christmas Day my husbands side of the family will join us, along with my aunt and uncle, not to forget the cousins with their family, and we will have brunch (anything else is impossible with around 30 people over) that will last from somewhere 11 am until late at night. The last day is for recovery and leftovers.

December 16, 2015 at 9:41 am30 people… WOW!!! It’s funny how, stereotipically, people think that Italians have huge families when actually most people here are only children and have no/very few cousins (at least here in the north). I’ve always loved large family gatherings, although we were probably like 12 people at the biggest one I’ve had!

December 15, 2015 at 4:44 pmI love this makeup look and specially the eyeshadow! I have been in Italy a couple of times and I love the country and its people. Had I not come to the US, I would have tried to live in your country. I celebrate Christmas as you do with a delicious dinner on Christmas Eve and the same dish on Christmas day for lunch and dinner (the dish gets tastier overnight!). I don’t have a big family in the US so I celebrate with my mother, husband, and younger brother. Have wonderful week, Carol!

Since I’ve grown older, Christmas isn’t really Christmas but the food sure is great and our tree is really big and decorated nicely so there’s that 🙂 I love that you included some traditions from Italy, that’s always nice to learn.

December 16, 2015 at 3:40 pmI think Collistar has recently launched in my local drugstore and I’ve seen really beautiful products, maybe I’ll check out the glittery gold shadow (it looks stunning on you, Carol). You can really rock that look.
Here in Spain it’s also all about food and family. We usually have the humongous Christmas Eve dinner, then the Christmas lunch and we celebrate what we call “Magic Kings” on January 6th, which leads us to another huge meal haha.
I hope you have a wonderful day xx

December 16, 2015 at 5:20 pmI’m doing a similar look too, well my makeup looks in general are pretty boring and safe so glittery eyeshadow is for my special occasions like Christmas. I only started celebrating Christmas last year, it was not celebrated by my family back in Malaysia because we celebrated Chinese New Year instead. But now that I’m married to my husband and living in Canada, Thanksgiving and Christmas are huge celebrations for us and I know what you mean by food coma, I’m ready for it! LOL!

December 17, 2015 at 8:47 amI love sparkly eyes with a defined liner paired with a red lip. MAC Ruby Woo is one of my favourite shades of red. Christmas is also about a big food coma here in the UK and in Ireland where I’ll be spending Christmas with my family, but we do eat a lot of turkey and ham, no fish x

December 17, 2015 at 1:30 pmThis is super interesting! In Poland, we traditionally have a huge Christmas Eve dinner that’s also fish-based! Another tradition is that you are supposed to prepare TWELVE dishes. Despite living in the UK, me and my family still celebrate Christmas Eve the old-fashioned, Polish way. 🙂

December 17, 2015 at 7:04 pmI love how you Italians always go full speed ahead with your food 😀 And the food you make…yum yum yummyyy! My friend worked as an au pair near lake Garda and so spent a good amount of time there and learning a lot about food. I swear she makes the best pizza in the world! 😀 Of course, it’s probably not on your xmas menu? But anyway, I could travel to Italy anytime for the food hehe 🙂

December 18, 2015 at 2:16 amOooh, beautiful lip! I saw that you have Ruby Woo, which I don’t have because it’s crazy drying, but I have Russian Red. Thanks for giving us tidbits about Italian culture during Christmas! I love Italian food (pasta, seafood, polenta and tiramisu are my favorites), culture, art (I love the Renaissance period). I have been to Florence (just for 1 night there, if I could go back I would spend more nights there) and Rome, and I loved both places! I would love to visit the other cities like Milan, Sicily or anywhere near the Amalfi Coast!

December 18, 2015 at 3:02 amWhat a pretty look! Loving the red lip. Can’t go wrong there. 🙂
Our Christmas is similar. We visit with my in-laws so there’s a large assortment of different foods. I usually make stuffed shells with garlic bread and salad. My mother-in-law makes tamales. In the days leading up to Christmas I do a lot of baking. Lots of cookies, cakes, and other pastries. Definitely a lot of food happening here too. Only to hate myself the day after lol.
