YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in 5 I’m The Trouble
So, what do you think of blue mascara?
Does it trigger memories of mullets and unblended fuchsia blush you’ve been trying to suppress for the past 26 years?
If so, I’m sorry. You may leave now, I understand.
But, personally, since I was born in the second half of the 1980’s, at the time I didn’t really have enough hair on my head to get a bad haircut, you know, so for me blue mascara is just something different I’ve always wanted to try, but never actually did – until very recently.
Wearing three coats of the YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in 5 I’m The Trouble and not much else
Yep, I’m not a colored mascara virgin anymore! Monsieur Saint Laurent managed to seduce me with his new gorgeous Vinyl Couture Mascara in 5 I’m The Trouble (love that name!), a beautifully vibrant cobalt blue.
YSL Vinyl Couture Mascaras have the same cap as my beloved Rouges Pur Couture The Mats
First of all, the tube: it looks and feels luxurious in a very young and fresh way. I usually don’t really care for mascara packaging, and most of the time just stick to drugstore ones (same for eyeliners – they don’t give me that luxe feeling I get with, say, high-end lipsticks), but YSL Vinyl Couture Mascaras are pretty unique in that respect.
More importantly, I’m happy to report that the bright cobalt tint of the YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in 5 I’m The Trouble shows up even on my black lashes, which I think is rather impressive.
Sadly my lashes are pretty crappy and in picture look even worse than they really are, but in person the impact of the YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in 5 I’m The Trouble is much greater
I have to admit that I reeeally like it, and it works great for a one-product look, which is exactly what I’ll need over the next few months.
If you’ve ever been to Bologna in the summer, then you’ll know that it gets so hot and humid here that you feel like you don’t even have enough energy for the most basic daily activities, like putting makeup on. Just slapping on some concealer and bronzer, and letting mascara do all the work sounds without a doubt very appealing.
So, to answer my own question – I think colored mascara paired with very minimal makeup definitely makes a fresh and modern summertime look.
I kinda wonder what’s next, though… will I suddenly feel the urge to give myself a mullet?? 😉
What about you? Would you ever wear colored mascara? What shade?

June 17, 2016 at 11:18 amI did wear it, back in the days. In the early 90ies, when I started wearing mascara, I raided my mothers stash who was still holding on to the trend of the last decade, so blue mascara it was, along with blue eyeshadow. No blush, luckily. But I am still traumatized.

June 17, 2016 at 11:50 amI purchased a purple mascara a couple of months ago and I forgot all about it haha! Perfect timing! I used to wear coloured mascara when I was younger, they were very trendy back then and I also remember wearing a mascara on my hair! Omg the things we used to do! 🙂
Blue looks lovely on you 🙂

June 17, 2016 at 5:19 pmI didn’t get into mascara into the 2010s hahha! Either way, this looks pretty great and I can see the blue pretty bold and clear on your lashes!! Kind of a fun twist on summer makeup!

June 18, 2016 at 4:41 pmI received this through Influenster and I initially thought I would get this cobalt blue but I received the black one instead. I seriously love the mascara though, it holds the curl really well for my lashes but the only thing that made me frown is the scent. It’s really strong and I wonder if it’s the same for all YSL mascaras?

June 18, 2016 at 10:18 pmIt looks so pretty with your brown eyes! I wore blue mascara before but none ever showed up that well. You’re right this is such a showstopper that you don’t need anything else on the eyes! Although it could be fun to pair it with a contrasting colored eyeliner.

June 18, 2016 at 11:02 pmHah I’d pay to see a mullet! 🙂 I just reviewed this too. Surprisingly I liked it very much. It’s a very fun shade to work with!

June 19, 2016 at 12:15 pmI have never tried colored mascara but you do make a good point: when it’s so hot and you don’t want to wear thick layers of makeup (especially eyeshadow), colored mascara looks and sounds like the next best thing! It looks so fun, and a way to break away from the mold and just have fun with makeup!

June 19, 2016 at 12:29 pmI’m really not a fan of coloured mascaras, It’s just a trend I couldn’t pull off. They’re great fun though 🙂 x

June 20, 2016 at 12:40 pmWhen I was young, I was curious about them, however now I don’t think I will give it a try. I don’t think I am that confident enough to wear it 🙂

June 20, 2016 at 9:01 pmLol I’m the same, I don’t have any bad memories about blue mascara! To me it’s just something quirky and different, that I still haven’t tried. When Benefit brought out their coloured mascaras, I was so tempted to purchase their green one. Now that it’s Summer and I’m feeling more colourful I think I might. The packaging of YSL products are so beautiful, I love the gold lid a lot. Your lashes look really gorgeous though Carol, it suits you so much.:)

June 23, 2016 at 6:31 pmThis looks lovely on you and is very different to the normal black or brown mascara. I personally don’t like coloured options on my eyelashes, I was given a purple one by accident by Dior and I did try it, lovely formula however I did find myself applying black on top of it as it simply didn’t give that depth to my eyes I like.
Still it’s fun to experiment and it’s great to play around for something a little different.

June 28, 2016 at 4:36 pmI do remember having a blue mascara back in the day (from Yves Rocher) and I loved it. I would gladly wear one again if I could find a waterproof version.
I was at Sephora yesterday and I saw other colors from this YSL collection. There was a purple and a pink one too!

June 29, 2016 at 5:07 pmI’ve tried these mascaras and I think they have excellent coverage! I think the green is gorgeous even though I was rather scared of it originally!

July 1, 2016 at 5:42 amI don’t know what you’re talking about, your lashes are NOT crappy. As a brown eyed girl, I admired this mascara from far away but didn’t really know if it would work on me. However, it looks absolutely gorgeous with your brown eyes so that gives me hope! One more thing to add to the list. You’re a bad influence for someone on a no buy Carol!
