In case you were wondering, the metallic makeup trend isn’t going anywhere.
And since I know it’s been keeping you up at night, I’ll also tell you that it’s not just staying. It’s getting even stronger.
Many beauty brands are releasing fall collections revolving around this trend and Dior is leading the way with its Metallics Collection – Fall Look 2017.
A few pieces from the Dior Metallics Fall 2017 Makeup Collection: Metalizer Eyes & Lips Metal Crème Shadow in 528 Platine Fusion, 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 677 Hypnotize, Rouge Dior Lipstick in 861 Sophisticated Matte, Vernis Nail Lacquer in 917 Paradox, Contour Lip Liner in 758 Sophisticated Matte
Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 677 Hypnotize ($62)
Swatches of the Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 677 Hypnotize. Although it didn’t translate in the swatch, the golden shade (fourth from the left) is a shimmery top coat that you can pat on top of any other shadow to make it glisten
Today on my eyes I’m wearing the Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 677 Hypnotize, the Dior Metalizer in 528 Platine Fusion and the Diorshow Pump ‘n’ Volume Mascara
If the Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in 677 Hypnotize were a band, the shadow in the top left corner would totally be the frontman. The other shades are all nice and good quality, but that gorgeous metallic lilac-y taupe is the real star of the show.
You know, the one that stands out and that you truly remember.
The swatch doesn’t really do it justice, so I strongly encourage you to check out the palette in store.
For today’s look, I applied the lilac-y taupe all over the lid and the matte chocolaty brown in the outer corner, in the crease and along the lower lashline. Then I patted the golden sparkly top coat in the center of the lid for some extra shimmer and finished off the look by popping a bit of the Platine Fusion Metalizer in the inner corner.
Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in 861 Sophisticated Matte ($35)
Today on my lips I’m wearing the Rouge Dior Lipstick in 861 Sophisticated Matte and Contour Lip Liner in 758 Sophisticated Matte. The lipstick has a satin-matte finish and is extremely comfy
The Rouge Dior in 861 Sophisticated Matte is my personal pick from the six limited edition lipsticks in the Metallics Collection, which also features a handful of more interesting shades, including the iconic 999 red with a metallic finish.
But hey, you know me, I’m boring (sophisticated?) like that.
Despite its lack of originality, this slightly deeper shade of red is one I love and see myself wearing pretty often in the colder months.
Dior Contour Lip Liner in 758 Sophisticated Matte ($31)
The Dior Contour Lip Liner in 758 Sophisticated Matte comes with a sharpener and has a very convenient lip brush on one end
Long gone are the days when I thought lining my lips was just a waste of time. Now I can’t use lipstick unless I also use a liner, so I really appreciate the fact that the Metallics Collection includes the Contour Lip Liner in 758 Sophisticated Matte, which matches the lipstick perfectly.
The Dior Contour formula is very nice – creamy, but also precise and long-lasting, but if you don’t have unlimited budget there definitely are more affordable options that are still pretty good (the KIKO Creamy Colour Comfort Lip Liners are the first that come to mind).
Dior Metalizer Eyes & Lips Metal Crème Shadow in 528 Platine Fusion ($25)
Wearing the Dior Metalizer Eyes & Lips Metal Crème Shadow in 528 Platine Fusion on top of the Rouge Dior Lipstick in 861 Sophisticated Matte
The Dior Metalizer Eyes & Lips in 528 Platine Fusion is a liquid shadow that you can use on its own or patted on top of your eyeshadows/lipsticks to give them a metallic finish. My favorite way to use it is as an inner corner highlight (like I did in today’s look) or on its own all over the lids.
I’ve also tried applying it on top of lipstick (as you can see in the picture above), but this little experiment only confirmed that I don’t like metallic lips.
I think it’s a nice little product if you want to play around with different finishes, though, and since it’s a multi-tasker you’ll most likely find at least one use for it that floats your boat.
Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in 917 Paradox ($27)
On my nails I’m wearing two coats of the Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in 917 Paradox
The Dior Vernis in 917 Paradox is a deep forest green with a metallic finish that just screams fall to me.
Or even Christmas.
Yeah, I can totally hear it caroling in the distance.
It’s a beautiful color and the sparkly finish keeps things interesting, but since I’m still very much in summer mode, it’ll keep the Chanel Le Vernis in Énergique company in my nail polish drawer at least until the leaves on the trees outside my window start going yellow.
If you normally stay away from dark nail polishes because your application skills are not exactly those of a pro, I think you should give the Dior Vernis in Paradox a go. The formula spreads easily and evenly and the wide domed brush makes not touching cuticles a real breeze.
So, my final verdict is that I like every single product I’ve tried from the Dior Metallics Collection for Fall 2017, but I’m not as excited about it as I was about Dior’s previous releases this year, for some reason…
Well, the reason might actually be that there’s another fall collection that is currently making me very weak at the knees… but more on that later! 😉
