The brand new KIKO Neo Noir collection was designed by Ross Lovegrove
Everyone knows that you don’t change a winning team, right?
But is this a The Dark Knight (amazing beyond expectations) or Blues Brothers 2000 (completely disappointing) type of sequel? [Sidenote: I think remaking certain movies should be forbidden by law. Like, a new Ghostbusters…? Really?]
Let’s have a look at my picks!
KIKO Neo Noir Enigma Lipstick in 03 Graphic Mauve (£11.90) & Enigma Lip Pencil in 03 Graphic Mauve (£5.90)
The KIKO Neo Noir Enigma Lipstick in 03 Graphic Mauve really is an enigma… I mean, what the hell was Ross Lovegrove thinking when he designed it?
Sorry, Ross, but this is really the most horrendously packaged lipstick I’ve seen in my entire life. It’s so chunky and, well… just plain hideous!
But after all, you’re an award-winning designer, and I’m just a nobody, so who am I to critique your art?!
Wearing the KIKO Neo Noir Enigma Lip Pencil in 03 Graphic Mauve and the Enigma Lipstick in the same shade on my lips, and the Neo Muse Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Mahogany Silhouette on my eyes
Anyways, the lipstick itself is pretty good. It’s a mauvy plum with a shiny finish – perfect shade for the season that comes after summer (I have a hard time using the f-word before September – and no, I don’t mean a cussword). It’s comfortable on the lips and longevity is not an issue, so if you like the packaging (or don’t care about it), I’d say go for it.
Despite being pretty creamy, the KIKO Neo Noir Enigma Lip Pencil in 03 Graphic Mauve has good lasting power. Its formula is very similar to (or possibly the same as) the KIKO Creamy Colour Comfort Lip Liners, which I personally love
The Enigma Lip Pencil in 03 Graphic Mauve is creamy and even enough to be used on its own all over the lips. If used under the lipstick, it makes it darker, more purply, less shiny, and longer-lasting.
KIKO Neo Noir Sparkling Trail Eyeshadow in 03 Sensual Burgundy (£6.90)
The KIKO Neo Noir Sparkling Trail Eyeshadow in 03 Sensual Burgundy is an intense metallic burgundy when heavily swatched, but once blended out it loses its metallic finish and looks more maroony
I’ve mentioned before (both on this blog and on Makeup and Beauty Blog) that I’m a big fan of KIKO‘s permanent line eyeshadow sticks (06 Golden Brown is my favorite), because they allow me to get a long-lasting eye makeup in a matter of seconds.
Unfortunately, though, the KIKO Neo Noir Sparkling Trail Eyeshadow in 03 Sensual Burgundy has a completely different formula. I usually apply it straight from the stick all over the mobile lid, and then have to spend a good deal of time buffing it in an blending it out with a fluffy brush. If I don’t do that the shadow looks pretty uneven and creases quickly.
After I take my time buffing and blending, the KIKO Neo Noir Sparkling Trail Eyeshadow in 03 Sensual Burgundy usually stays in place for about 8 hours on top of the NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.
Honestly, all things considered, I don’t think this is a must-have product.
KIKO Neo Noir Neo Muse Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Mahogany Silhouette (£16.90)
The black shadow is matte, while the others are shimmery
Wearing the KIKO Neo Noir Neo Muse Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Mahogany Silhouette on my eyes. I used the lighter brown all over the lid, the darker brown in the outer corner, in the crease, and along the lower lashline, the black along the outer half of the upper lashline, and the champagne in the inner corner
If you ask me, the eyeshadow palette is where it’s at! The shadows are super silky, nicely pigmented, easy to blend, and pretty long-lasting.
The shades may not be the most original around, but if you’re looking for a decently priced, workhorse palette, the KIKO Neo Noir Neo Muse Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Mahogany Silhouette will hardly disappoint.
Swatches of all the KIKO Neo Noir products I mentioned. L-R: Enigma Lipstick in 03 Graphic Mauve, Enigma Lip Liner in 03 Graphic Mauve, Sparkling Trail Eyeshadow in 03 Sensual Burgundy heavy and blended, and Neo Muse Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Mahogany Silhouette
What do you think of KIKO’s Neo Noir collection? And do you believe that you should never change a winning team or that it’s very hard to replicate a big success?
