The new Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Matte in 189 Isabella ($32) is my pick from the revamped L’Absolu Rouge lipstick range, which now features matte, cream, and sheer textures
The new Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge lipsticks have a gorgeous “clicky” packaging: when you push the golden button on top of the lid, the lipstick pops out of the bottom
Seeing the ridiculous amount of lipstick reviews I’ve been serving you lately, one may very legitimately wonder if I’ve been transformed into some sort of mythological many-headed monster.
Well, no, truth is, I haven’t. I’m still plain old me: one head, one set of lips.
How boring.
But, you know, just when you’re convincing yourself you should explore different product categories, Lisa Eldridge (your ultimate beauty inspiration) decides to launch a mammoth range of reformulated Lancôme L’Absolu Rouges. And, I mean, what is a Lisa-/lipstick lover to do then?
Yeah, I guess we all know the answer…
Welcome, new Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Matte in 189 Isabella!
Since I bought it online, I decided to play it safe and get something I was most likely going to like – a matte red.
But we, lipstick freaks, all know that there’s actually a myriad of shades of red, and I really had no idea what type it would be. An orangey red? A cool-toned red? A deeper red? (How thrilling. Aren’t you just dying of anticipation??)
Well, turns out, it’s just red.
It’s not too dark, it’s not too bright, it’s not too orange, it’s not too blue. To me 189 Isabella is the quintessential red lipstick. One I would see a 1940’s starlet wear.
Wearing the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Matte in 189 Isabella on my lips and the Rimmel Magnif’Eyes Mono Eyeshadow in 002 Millionaire on my eyes
The finish is not exactly matte, though, which makes me wonder how the cream finishes in the range compare. But the formula is nicely hydrating and still pretty long-lasting, so I think that, unless you’re looking for a MAC Ruby Woo type of matte (AKA a hardcore, powdery matte), the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Matte in 189 Isabella will most likely please you.
It definitely pleases me! 😉

October 8, 2016 at 1:02 pmThis shade looks so stunning on you Carol, seriously! It’s great that it turned out being the perfect shade of red. It looks so chic, like a beautiful ‘film star’ red. I love lipsticks that are hydrating and still long-lasting. That’s my favourite formula actually, especially in the colder months, as I get such dry lips whenever I wear matte shades.

October 8, 2016 at 5:13 pmYou look amazing with red lips, Carol! I have been looking for Rimmel Millionaire but it’s not sold here in Canada! Ugh! I have to look for it through eBay or Amazong and it’s ridiculously overpriced. 🙁

October 9, 2016 at 11:25 amThank you, Shireen!
Millionaire is really pretty and versatile, but I’m not sure it’s worth paying a lot more than its original price.

October 8, 2016 at 5:15 pmThere is just one way to find out how they compare: You need another lipstick, this time from the cream finishes! That being said, this lipstick would very likely please me as well…

October 9, 2016 at 12:24 pmI don’t really like Ruby Woo, it’s too drying on my lips so this formula sounds right up my street, the shade is beautiful and I love the packaging’s vintage vibe!

October 9, 2016 at 7:06 pmI actually like lipsticks that aren’t too matte. I wouldn’t mind trying this. Lisa E is generally responsible for me running out of money. Lol.

October 10, 2016 at 8:10 amThat’s really a beautiful red! I haven’t tried the new L’Absolu Rouge formula yet, so many new products to try these days…. The range of shades is quite impressive though, I think I’ll try to see them in person before picking one.
