Are you a curious individual?
I am a very curious person. Not in a nosy way, mind you. I’m just constantly thirsty for knowledge.
I’d need to live a hundred lives to learn everything I’d like to learn. Like, how to play several different instruments starting from the piano, how to sing and dance properly, photography, graphic design, astronomy – the list goes on and on.
I think curiosity is what pushes humanity forward, what makes us advance, learn new things and grow.
But I have to admit that sometimes I’m curious about very petty things. For instance, can the NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ($26) be as good as so many bloggers seem to make it? Can it really be better than the Urban Decay Primer Potion ($20) and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance ($20)? I just had to know.
And now I do.
Can the NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base be good enough to justify the steeper price tag?
NARS claims that ‘this lightweight primer creates a seamless canvas that keeps cream and powder color looking brilliant, fresh and just-applied all day. No smudging, no creasing, no caking, no looking back’.
Well, I can now confirm that it’s all true. The other day I wore my KIKO Long-Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 06 Golden Brown for 14 hours on top of NARS Pro-Prime on one eye and on top of Too Faced Shadow Insurance on the other. Before taking my makeup off, I noticed that the NARS side looked perfectly intact and fresh, while the eyeshadow had completely faded in the crease of the Too Faced eye.
The NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base looks white on the doe-foot applicator, but goes on completely clear
I also love the fact that the NARS Pro-Prime seems to be more emollient than any other eye primer I’ve ever tried. It really does create a perfect canvas for eyeshadow application.
What more can I say? I’m a convert!
Have you ever tried the NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base? Do you think its performance justifies its steep price tag? What’s your favorite eye primer?

March 23, 2016 at 12:11 pmI haven’t tried the NARS one (or many others, to be honest), but I am a very curious person myself, be it beauty products or books, skills or social interactions. We live to learn!

March 23, 2016 at 1:21 pmI use urban decay and it is pretty good. I would like to try the Nars one though. It is good to try different products. You find out which one works best.

March 23, 2016 at 3:04 pmI have only used Urban Decay and blinc eyeshadow primer from higher end brands, never Nars though. This is pretty impressive, can’t believe it actually outperformed Too Faced!

March 23, 2016 at 6:28 pmDid it really beat the primer potion? That’s quite a product if it did! And for the price it better be great!

March 23, 2016 at 8:49 pmI got this a few months ago and really like it, I will definitely need to do a test like you did to see how it fares against my other primers!

March 23, 2016 at 11:24 pmI haven’t used it and now I’m really curious about it! I have oily eye lids and if this makes eyeshadow last for 14 hours then it is more than impressive!

March 24, 2016 at 3:23 pmI want to purchase this so much now Carol! I have recently just started getting into cream eyeshadows and I’ve realised just how important an eyeshadow primer actually is. I’ve never needed one when wearing powdered eyeshadows and I’ve never actually understood the hype with eye primers. But obviously now I know that cream eyeshadows are hard to stay in one place, even with people that have normal eyelids like me. I really want to try this now as I love NARS as a brand anyway, thank you so much for this great review.:)

March 24, 2016 at 8:46 pmI’m right there with you! Sometimes it stresses me out because there’s just so many things I want to do with so little time. I’d love to learn to play the piano though. Or learn a new language!
I’ve only ever stuck to UD Primer Potion, but now you have me wanting to try this.

March 24, 2016 at 9:23 pmThis is the best eyelid primer I’ve ever used. Glad you liked it too!

March 25, 2016 at 1:02 amI haven’t tried this (honestly it’s so hard to justify spending so much on any eye primer mostly because I don’t have too much of a problem with oily eyelids or anything) but I think it’s so interesting that it’s WHITE too, especially since it goes on clear. 14 hours is really impressive though – maybe it’ll be a splurge item for me!

March 25, 2016 at 8:19 pmYes I’m very much a curious individual and after trying an eyeshadow primer a while back I didn’t look back. My favourite is the Urban Decay original one.
NARS is one of my favourite brands, and it’s not surprising you were impressed with the quality of this one.
An eye shadow primer really is a must because it provides you with the truest colour of your eyeshadow and keeps natural oils locked in place keeping your shadow on for longer.
Great post, always enjoy reading about NARS 🙂

March 25, 2016 at 8:40 pmOh how I have missed your posts Carol, I don’t wear anything on my eyes apart from mascara, only on the odd special occasion, I apply some eye shadow and use the UD primer. But that has slowly come to an end, and I do have a function coming up, I might have to give this a go ♥

March 27, 2016 at 1:29 amI really love this primer as well, it’s a long time favourite of mine. I’m currently using up a shadow primer sample from another brand and it doesn’t even hold a candle to the Nars one.
